On Sunday night May 20, at our regular business meeting, our church family approved the formation of a special team who will be given the task of searching for a Minister of Discipleship to join the staff of DeSoto Hills on a full time basis. This is a vital ministry need for us, and is critical for the continued growth and health of this body. This new staff person will be responsible for helping us enlist, equip, encourage, and instill vision for all aspects of discipleship at DeSoto Hills. It is a tall order, but I believe the Lord has such a person for us. Please pray for the team as they begin their search. Per our Church Constitution they were nominated by the deacon’s through their leadership. Team members include:
Scott Borden
Susan Lugar
Jeffery King
Mitzi Roberts
Roy Weichand
I look forward to the days ahead as continue to answer the call of the Great Commission to “Go and make disciples of all nationsâ€Â Matthew 28:19.

Great Commission
Monday, May 21st, 2007
While we are constantly seeking to be a Great Commission church, this summer we are kicking it up a notch as we see DeSoto Hills folks serve Him around the world. In July, 25 students and adult leaders will be traveling to Ecuador to work at a student camp. In addition to that, we have four college students who will working in summer mission all season long.
Aaron Beasely – South Asia
Kevin Harwell- Bangladesh
Drew Joslin – Maryland
Caleb Lugar – Pakistan & Peru
Please keep them and their families in your prayers. I pray that great things will be accomplished in and through them this summer.
Kathy and I are away this weekend for a wedding. We have a nephew who is getting married outside of Denver, Colorado and he asked me to perform the ceremony. Have a great Memorial Day. See ya soon.

The Baby Blue Birds Have Flown the Coop
Wednesday, May 16th, 2007
A blue bird update from the Lewis’ backyard. The baby blue birds have flown the coop. This is a significant announcement in light of the fact that Sunday we will be honoring our graduates, most of whom will be leaving the nest either literally, or certainly figuratively, as a result of graduation. It is a turning point for all involved. Parents I don’t mean to belabor the point, but the whole purpose of having and raising them is so they can leave the nest and fly. The blue birds in my backyard know that, so there comes a point where they stop doing everything for the chicks (including feeding them) to encourage them to step out on their own. Right about now the analogy does begin to break down because once the baby blue birds leave the nest, they don’t come back. However, I can almost guarantee you that your babies will return with loads of laundry and a depleted bank account. Along the way, they just may return a little wiser and a little more grateful than when they left. The big blue sky has a way of causing you to grow up.

Hat Tip to Brandon
Tuesday, May 8th, 2007
It is official. As of Friday, Bro. Brandon Ullrich is a graduate of Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. It has been a long journey and we have had a small part in it by providing him a place to serve and practice what he has been learning. There is no education quite like experience. It has been good for him and good for us as he continues to lead our Senior Adult and Outreach ministries. On Wednesday May 16th we want to honor Bro. Brandon with a reception from 5:00 to 6:00 PM in the south end of the Grand Hall. It will be an opportunity for you to personally congratulate him. A basket will also be provided for you to leave him a note or a card. Our hats go off and our hearts go out to you, Bro. Brandon.
Hope to see you all there,
Bro. James
