Mid Week Bound… 365…

I doubt this article is anything that one reads with bated breath, but I do hope from time to time it helps you stop, reflect upon life, and maybe even chuckle along the way.  There are days that it leans toward being inspirational, while at other times I am just trying to make an announcement.  This one might sound a little bit like an info-commercial.  DHBC continues to be the place to be on Wednesday nights as we kick off a new semester of adult discipleship here that we call “365: A Weekly Experience for A Daily Endeavor”.  It is designed to be a highly nutritional part of the spiritual diet for those who hunger and thirst after righteousness.  We truly believe there is something for everyone in this semester line up.

A Fellow Pilgrim

The last edition of our “Summer Breezes” for  2010 will take place on Sunday, August 29 and Monday, August 30.  These were designed within the summer schedule as a time for spiritual refreshing for all of us.  It has given me a break from preaching although  that was not the purpose.  I really wanted to bring some different folks in to give you a break from me.  Sometimes the Lord can use other speakers to say something in another way that can truly impact us.  Like those in the church at Corinth, you may be drawn to someone like Paul, Peter, or Apollos, but in the end it is always the Lord that is the key element to lasting revival.  I am thankful he uses a lot of different instruments in his great gospel symphony.  One such instrument is Tom Richter from Brooklyn, NY.  Tom is one very uniquely gifted preacher who was here last year for our DiscipleNow.   Believe me, if you hear him once you will want to hear him again!  Because of the distance involved in bringing him to DHBC, we decided to make the most of his visit by expanding our last “Summer Breeze” to include all day Sunday and Monday night.  In order to help you get here from work and school, we will be serving a FREE meal that night starting at 5:00. The service will then begin on Monday evening at 6:30.  We just ask that you sign up so we we’ll have enough food.   Let’s end this summer with a bang as we continue to allow the Lord to work in and through us.

From The Great Indoors…

From early spring to late fall, you’ll always find my bride of 32 years and I enjoying the fresh air outside with our morning coffee.  If it’s too breezy or rainy we’ll stay on the screen porch, but otherwise we have two adirondack rockers just off the porch that serve as “quiet time” central.  We get up early in order to have the opportunity to make it to the gym and to those rockers before work.  Recently, however, our routine has been interrupted by the weather.  Normally it’s the cold that eventually drives us inside, but this year for the first time it’s the heat that forced us to reconsider our morning ritual.  There is just something about 80 plus degree weather and early morning coffee that just doesn’t mix. I really didn’t want to give in to the heat or get out of my routine, but in the end we decided it was needless to keep sweating it out.   So here I sit this morning writing “the nook”, sipping on a hot cup of coffee inside the comfort of our air-conditioned house.  As is so often the case, I have learned a few lessons from this minor ordeal:
…God is more concerned about “whether” we have a quiet time than “where” we have one.
…Being outside does not necessarily put you closer to God.
…Some suffering is pointless.
…I am thankful to whoever invented AC.

From the great indoors,
