Staff

James Lewis – Senior Pastor

James Lewis has served as Senior Pastor for the DeSoto Hills Family since 1998. He and His wife, Kathy, have two grown children. Their son, Marc, teaches at Horn Lake High School and also serves as a part-time staff member at DHBC. Their daughter, Jami, is a pediatrician with Memphis Children’s Clinic. These days the Lewis’ are experiencing the blessings of being grandparents. James is a native of east Tennessee.

Mark Manning – Minister of Music

Mark has served as Minister of Music for this family since 2001. His wife Celeste teaches at DeSoto Central Elementary. They have two children – Lyle, a freshman at MSU and Calland, a junior at DeSoto Central High School. Bro. Mark is a native of the Mississippi Delta.

Grant Stegall – Minister of Discipleship

Grant Stegall joined the staff here at Desoto Hills as the Minister of Discipleship in November of 2007. He and his wife, Amber, were married in July 2002. They two sons (Eli, born November 2006, and Sam, born November 2008), and two daughters (Sarah Grace, born December 2010 and Mary McKenzie, born February 2013). Grant is a native of Pontotoc County, MS.

Chris Layton – Minister to Students

Chris came to DHBC in August of 2o13.  He is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and is currently working on his Master’s of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.  He is married to Christen Layton and has 3 children: Madelynn, Jeremiah, and Lily Bell.  Chris also leads worship throughout the state of Mississippi at many youth and college events.

Marc Lewis – Ministry Assistant

Attending college in Hattiesburg, Marc obtained his bachelors degree in music education with an emphasis in percussion, drumming and a minor in piano performance. Marc previously taught high school at Olive Branch as the librarian and is currently teaching at Horn Lake , running it’s brand new media department. Marc produces a nine minute news program with a small staff of students that airs daily in the school and on the internet at HornLaketv.com. Marc travels the around the south leading worship for various events with the Marc Lewis Band, he is also a founding member of the Chris Layton Band for which he plays drums. At Desoto Hills Marc is an assistant with the Student Ministries, maintains much of the church’s technology and leads the Wednesday night H2O services as well as our Sunday Evening worship services in the attic. He and his wife Jennifer live in Southaven with their two year old daughter Riley.

Jennifer Rushton – Music Associate

Jennifer has played keyboard for the DeSoto Hills family since 1994 and now also serves as music associate. She teaches private piano lessons and also plays for Desoto Family Theatre and other area productions. She is married to Lee and has two sons, Jason and Caleb.

Laura Ullrich – Children’s Minister

Laura joined the staff at DeSoto Hills Baptist Church in June 2010. Her dream for the children’s ministry is that it “should be founded on the teaching of God’s Word while impacting children and their families with the gospel of Jesus Christ.” Originally from Hoover, AL, Laura loves all things Auburn football. She and her husband Brandon live in Southaven and are expecting their first child in November.

Bonnie Jones – Preschool Director

Bonnie has been serving on staff at DHBC as Preschool Director since 2012. She taught for a brief time in private schools and then retired from DeSoto County Schools after teaching Kindergarten for 26 years. She is able to use her love for children and her education background to help teach preschoolers about God. Bonnie and her husband, Randy, have been married for 42 years. They have two daughters, Kay and Maurie. Maurie and her husband, Brian Wright, have blessed them with two grandsons: Jackson and Cooper.
